If anyone is interested, I have follow-up links to some of the stuff I spoke
about at last night's Dorkbot.
----- MUSIC BOX -----
This is the guy whose electronic musical box I implemented. I'll highlight a
few of his pages, but I recommend exploring his site:

----- NIBBLER -----
These were the original inspirations for the "Nibbler".

----- CHAOS -----
In some of my comments for Max's "Indifference Engine" I mentioned "Cellular
Automata" as a great source of chaotic pattern generation. These are real easy
to implement in software and could probably even be done with op-amps and
discrete logic if you are a masochist.

The Cone Shell uses a "1D Totalistic Cellular Automata" system to generate its
shell pattern.

Rudy Rucker does some great CA software, I recommend downloading and playing
around with "Capow"

----- ARDUINO -----
There was a local distributor for the "Arduino" board at Dorkbot last night.
The Arduino is a microcontroller board that is supported by a (free!) IDE based
on the Wiring/Processing language/framework. I design and build these sorts of
gadgets for a living and this looks like a pretty good deal to me. I've never
seen anything so complete and easy to use, and it's even supported by Macintosh.

The local distributor doesn't seem to add much markup on it either, so it's
basically equivalent to the USD$ price.
