The new Dorkbot art show opens in just over a week! I will be in the show,
and so will Joe, and my dad Lawrence (Mac), and lots of other very
interesting artists, including at least one more from Tacoma.
Please come to the opening, or anytime during the month of the show's run.
The gallery (911 Media Arts) is open 12-6pm Monday through Friday, and may
be open at other times as well. You can use the link at the bottom of the
announcement to go to 911's site and see their calendar or contact info, so
you can call about whether they're open at other times that might work
better for you.
Note that the opening has a $10 cover charge. (We are raising money to cover
exhibition expenses & any remainder will go to 911's operating budget.) The
opening will also be 21+, unfortunately. Kids will love this show, because
of all the interactive art, so bring them after the opening night.
Other than the 8th, the exhibition is free all month.
Best wishes,
Laura

More About "Strange Things":
<http://dorkbot.org/dorkbotsea/events/pdstwe3/pix/jefflarson1.jpg> New and
exciting genres of art emerge as artists, scientists and technologists bring
together their expertise to push the boundaries of what is possible.
Dorkbot-sea <http://dorkbot.org/dorkbotsea/> 's exhibition, People Doing
Strange Things with Electricity, showcases innovative trends in modern art
by bringing together established and emerging artists who work with
electricity in a significant way either in their art, or in its creation.
For the last show in 2005, over 1200 people visited the exhibit during the
opening night event. Please see this
<http://www.dorkbot.org/dorkbotsea/events-pdstwe2.shtml> page for an
overview of our last exhibit including a list of artists, and here
<http://dorkbot.org/dorkbotsea/events/pdstwe3/images.html> for pictures.
<http://dorkbot.org/dorkbotsea/events/pdstwe3/pix/scottdavid1.jpg> This
year, in addition to showcasing works that in some way involve the use of
electricity, we are emphasizing interactivity: art installations that
interact with the environment, with participant observers, and with other
installations. " Strange Things
<http://dorkbot.org/dorkbotsea/events/pdstwe3/index.html> " that pique
curiosity and inspire a desire to touch. The Dorkbot Overlord Committee,
with guest juror Misha Neininger, Executive Director of 911 Media
<http://911media.org/> Arts Center, selected over 25 pieces from regional
artists. Our focus on interactive electronic projects encompasses a broad
range of creative media: art that borders the line between physical and
digital art, digital art and experimental media, kinetic sculpture, reactive
sculpture, sound and light installations, web-based art, ubiquitous
computing...to name a few.
