Message-ID: ..features Marcia Huyer and Paulette Phillips, both of whom do really lovely, haunting work, creating quiet, contemplative and beautifully weird moments. Huyer works with eerily lit, inflatable tyvek architectural outgrowths. Phillips constructs eerie installations that probe latent meanings ? the memory of her Floating House video haunts me still, years after seeing it. You may have seen Huyer's spatially sophisticated and just fucking *neat* installation at Interaccess a few months ago. Phillips has exhibited in may locations, including Prefix Photo's impeccably front gallery, which is where I first encountered her work. Images from both Marcia and Paulette, as well as Jessica Field/Steve Daniels (April 16), and Briana Palmer/Craig Porter (May 14) are up at http://www.dorkbot.org/dorkbottoronto. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=- As always, dorkbot takes place: Thursday, 7pm, at Interaccess (9 Ossington Ave). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Bios: Paulette Phillips is an artist based in Toronto. Recent work includes a site-specific work - solar powered walking ferns - commissioned for the Tatton Park Biennale, U.K.; Marnie's Handbag, commissioned for Fashion Week London which premiered at the Tate Modern and "History appears twice, the first time as tragedy the second time as farce." presented at the 2009 Berlinale as part of the Expanded Film Forum. She teaches contemporary art practices at The Ontario College of Art and Design. Her work is represented by Danielle Arnaud Contemporary art in London and Diaz Contemporary Toronto. Marcia Huyer currently lives and works in Toronto. In 2006 Huyer received her MFA at the University of Victoria and studied sculpture at Ontario College of Art and Design (1999). In 2008 she exhibited work at Inter Access Electronic Media Arts Centre and with Ecotecture Canada, both in Toronto. In 2007 she exhibited at the ODD Gallery, Dawson City, Yukon; The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Victoria, BC and was a part of CAFKA, Kitchener, ON. Huyer has been working with the medium of inflation since 2003. Huyer would like to thank the Toronto Arts Council and the Ontario Arts Council for their generous support. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=- From liav.koren at gmail.com Thu Mar 12 11:21:49 2009 From: liav.koren at gmail.com (Liav Koren) Date: Thu Mar 12 11:21:58 2009 Subject: [dorkbottoronto-announce] reminder: Marcia Huyer + Paulette Phillips tonight.
