Hi Nick,

Thanks for the quick response!  That'll work for what I'm doing.   
Would it be possible to add a delegate method to NoteFactory to  
clarify this behavior?  Something like:

NoteFactory.updateFromDuration(Note n, boolean preserveNoteHead)

with NoteFactory.updateFromDuration(Note n) using false for  
preserveNoteHead to preserve current behavior.
