why 44.1?

Sort of off-topic question: how did the cd sampling rate of 44.1 kHz get 
chosen? If the desired frequency response was up to 20kHz, then why not a 
40kHz sampling rate?

Maybe the following has something to do with it? Or is it just a wierd 
coincidence?

1x2x3x5x7 = 210
210 ^ 2 = 44100

:D
