[jsyn] "compilation"?

Hi.  I'm just getting started monkeying with JSyn.  I'm wondering what
compilation really does, and what triggers it.  Is the unit generator
graph still traversed at runtime, or does compilation do code
generation?  Given Java's reasonably good performance, it seems feasible
to generate customized JVM code for circuits.  I've done something sort
of analogous for compiling compositions of image filters in Pan
