The main change since the 0.3.1 release is that dssi-vst now builds with newer versions of the Wine tools. Wine 0.9.5 or newer is now required. This release also builds with version 2.4 of the VST SDK, although it should still work with the older 2.3 as well. Message-ID: <17443.195.245.190.93.1141637278.squirrel@www.rncbc.org> Greetings, So here comes the time for another public release of the (cute) JACK Audio Connection Kit - Qt Interface: QjackCtl 0.2.20 is out! Just as one can read from the change log: - Server path setting now accepts custom command line parameters (after a kind suggestion from Jussi Laako). - The internal XRUN callback notification statistics and reporting has been changed to be a bit less intrusive. - Patchbay socket dialog gets some more eye-candy as icons have been added to the client and plug selection (combobox) widgets. - Connections and patchbay lines coloring has changed just slightly :) - New patchbay socket forwarding feature. Any patchbay socket can now be set to have all its connections replicated (i.e. forwarded) to another one, which will behave actively as a clone of the former. Forward connections are shown by vertical directed colored lines, and can be selected either on socket dialog or from context menu (currently experimental, only applicable to input/writable sockets). - Optional specification of alternate JACK and/or ALSA installation paths on configure time (after a patch from Lucas Brasilino, thanks). Available from the usual places: http://qjackctl.sourceforge.net http://sourceforge.net/projects/qjackctl Enjoy. -- rncbc aka Rui Nuno Capela rncbc@rncbc.org From rncbc at rncbc.org Mon Mar 6 04:28:57 2006 From: rncbc at rncbc.org (Rui Nuno Capela) Date: Wed Mar 8 07:36:13 2006 Subject: [linux-audio-announce] Qsynth 0.2.5 released! Message-ID: <18191.195.245.190.93.1141637337.squirrel@www.rncbc.org> Greetings, So here comes the time for another public release of the (cute) FluidSynth Qt Interface: Qsynth 0.2.5 is out! Just as one can read from the change log: - New dial-knob behavior now follows mouse pointer angular position, almost similar to old QDial, but this time avoiding that nasty and rather abrupt change on first mouse click. - By simple use of widget subclassing, the value/position of any dial knob can now be reset to its default or original position at any time, by simply pressing the mouse mid-button. These default value positions are just committed to current dial values when switching engines and/or closing the application. - Optional specification of alternate fluidsynth installation path has been added to configure command arguments (--with-fluidsynth). - After some source code tweaks, a win32 build is now possible (instructions will be provided on demand :) - Bank offset finally gets its due effect, while on the channels and channel preset selection dialogs. Regretfully, the soundfont bank offset feature has been lurking ever since its inception, but now its live and hopefully effective. - A new fancy widget has arrived, qsynthKnob, with some modifications to replace the actual *ugly* QDial widgets in the main window. This widget is based on a design by Thorsten Wilms, formerly implemented by Chris Cannam in Rosegarden, and finally adapted and brought to Qsynth by Pedro Lopez-Cabanillas. Thankyou all. Bzzzz Thought so. /* http://shelljam.sourceforge.net */ In any case, there have been program updates (touchpad controlled Saw Wave Overtones! Ohboyohboyohboy this is great! Couple it with Zyn and... MAAAAAN! This is so awsome :) And, it actually gives you more control than the purchasable hardware bug-prone heavy-to-carry performance-latency-issue knob controlled MIDI hardware out there, because you can control _two MIDI controllers with just one finger_. The world seriously needs laptops with more than one touchpad : Also, on the web site is a little bit of my famous irrevent humor as a goodie (except when you are the target), a brand new mug shot (yes, I do actually look that way, and I have been boxing but I wasn't serious enough about it for it to change my appearence), and a brand new demo of the brand new touchpad controlled overtones saw-wave goodie feature, complete with Zyn patch and S24 live recording. Of course, directly listenable in your beloved OGG Vorbis. /* http://shelljam.sourceforge.net */ Oh yeah and everything in my last smackdown release is fixed, the new MIDI system is really fantastico, and the UI is still nonexistent. DUH. It works though. And the thing looks really great in my mind... cross graphics mode user interface! All this, and of course the program pre-compiled and partly-statically-linked and hence probably readily to use, or also as spiffy simplified source text files if you so prefer, at the same location as always, -> http://shelljam.sourceforge.net Enjoy! Please accept my apologies for getting this mail if you are already part of our team. Otherwise I would like to lay before you a proposal which will clearly be of much interest for you: For some years the LinuxTag e.V., a non-profit organisation promoting our beloved free os, organises a yearly meeting of free projects and software-business at a conference in Germany. It is the largest of this kind in Europe, thats at least what they say. The Linux Audio Community always had an exhibition booth at this conference for the last years and everyone of our members recognized it as a great fun and learning event. To continue this story of fortune I humbly seek your help to be a part in this years team of the LA-booth. We will give you the opportunity to show the world what apps for making music with Linux are out there and explain your choice of os to the visitors. The LinuxTag will take place from 3. to 6. May in Wiesbaden. Please note that this is just the week after the Linux Audio Conference in Karlsruhe and gives you the opportunity to attend to both meetings and have a couple of days of holiday in between. Also, for the same reason I've resorted to some cross-posting. My sincere apologies if this has caused any inconvenience. What is Linuxaudio.org? Linuxaudio.org is a non-profit consortium whose role is to support Linux as a viable digital audio workstation. Linuxaudio.org therefore aims to expose, proliferate, and disseminate artistic, as well as software and hardware development endeavors associated with the aforementioned platform. The two-year-old consortium boasts a growing membership consisting of 30+ member organizations, companies, software projects, and institutions. In its relatively brief existence, Linuxaudio.org has spearheaded a creation of the first online CD compilation of art generated using exclusively open source software in conjunction with Linux, and has sponsored Linux audio booths at several international conferences and expos. For more info please visit http://www.linuxaudio.org It is also my pleasure to use this opportunity to announce our latest members: *Ubuntu Linux represented by Mark Shuttleworth *Ubuntu Studio project (ubuntustudio.com) represented by Dana Olson *Pure-Data represented by Miller Puckette *Frinika software project (www.frinika.com) represented by Johan Salomonsen *(CCM)2 studios at the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati represented by Dr. Mara Helmuth *Virginia Tech Music Department, represented by Prof. John Husser I would like to welcome our new members. For latest updates, users, members, as well as prospective members are encouraged to subscribe to the following list: http://lists.linuxaudio.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/consortium/ We are now in an opportune moment as the Linuxaudio.org appears to be finally ready for the plan which has been proposed almost a year ago, namely to incorporate the consortium in order to begin fund-raising for the purpose of strengthening the consortium's mission and outreach. In order to bring this plan to fruition, I would first of all greatly appreciate a response from all who were/are currently subscribed to, or wish to be involved in the consortium. A number of other ideas/projects are currently in the works, including a potential move of the consortium's server to Virginia Tech where we could enjoy better bandwidth and more disk space, both of which would put us in a much better position regarding expansion and offering enhanced content. If anyone is interested in getting involved with the Web maintenance, please contact me at ico_at_linuxaudio.org. Linuxaudio.org is currently in the process of finalizing a new logo. All who are involved (or wish to be involved) in Linuxaudio.org are welcome to contribute to this project. Finally, please allow me to point out that Linuxaudio.org always welcomes new member projects, institutions, organizations, and individuals who actively contribute to the development of the Linux as a viable digital audio workstation, including artists and software projects. The membership is currently free, and even once we become incorporated and instantiate membership dues for the purpose of fund-raising, members will have an option to enroll as and/or retain their free membership. If interested, please do not hesitate to contact me. For additional info, please visit http://www.linuxaudio.org. Message-ID: <200603211055.08734.viceic@net2000.ch> Freecycle 0.6alpha is out!! Freecycle (http://freecycle.redsteamrecords.com) is a beat slicer running on GNU/Linux platform using the QT toolkit, providing amplitude domain and frequency domain beat matching / zero crossing algorithms. It exports sliced audio chunks and generates a MIDI file which can be used to play the sliced loop, or you can jam with it as soon as you?ve made slices using a midi keyboard or sequencer. Freecycle also exports AKAI S5000/S6000/Z4/Z8 .AKP files to be used with your favorite sampler, SoundFont files, and supports slice drag and drop to/from or inside Freecycle. It can process the audio inline using LADSPA effects, as well as apply envelopes to separate slices. This new release replaces the PortAudio and PortMidi support with Alsa and alsaseq. PortAudio and PortMidi are still supported on systems without alsa. As a minor feature, Freecycle now provides the "Bark scale" for spectrogram plotting, which enhances the visibility of the audio wave in the frequency domain. This reduces startup time a lot. -Updated rt-stuff to latest version. -Fixed that pressing any of the control on/off buttons also started playing. -Included GTK mnemonics code from Maxim Krikun. -Print debug info to stdout when something goes wrong in a hook or timed callback. -Backported Bill's fix for segfaulting when changing filter order when playing. Bug found by Tim Blechman. (-The included diff-file between SND v7.15 vs. SND-ls is now 108000 bytes. Probably time to move on to SND v7.20.) http://ccrma.stanford.edu/~kjetil/src/ ***************************************************************************** 2. LASH is a session management system for GNU/Linux audio applications. It allows you to save and restore a complex setup of many applications connected together (via Jack and Alsa sequencer) with a single click of a button. Changes since 0.5.0: - Automatic server launching (similar to Jack, export LASH_START_SERVER to enable) - Numerous bugfixes (notably saving over existing project directories and duplicate clients in the Lash Panel) - Usability fixes to Lash Panel (notably the save dialog now makes sense) Upgrading is highly recommended. Rumour has it the next releases of MusE and Seq24 will have LASH support, and preliminary work on Ardour has begun. Feel free to contact me about adding support to your app (it's usually very simple). Several times in the past few months I have tried to set aside timeto get the project going again, and each time has not succeeded, due to other things going on for me at the time. My interests have also moved in a different direction in helping the Linux community. I will always be an audio and music enthusiast, but the work that I am doing elsewhere is taking a large amount of my attention at the moment, due to the possibility of getting employment in that area. I only hope that those who used AudioSlack packages found them useful in the time they were available. If there is somebody out there who feels they wish to continue my previous efforts, please email me at luke@audioslack.com to discuss site/domain hand-over. In closing, I would just like to say thank you to those who did help me or give me encouragement/support while the project was alive. I had many great plans forthis site, but it looks like they will never see the light of day. So thanks to all once again, and I may see you elsewhere in this wonderful world wide Linux community. Message-ID: <200603301723.41574.marcospcmusica@gmail.com> http://www.musix.org.ar Musix GNU+Linux 0.39 has been released! This is a highly experimental version. We've developed it with the intention of testing the latest versions of many applications. 0.39 will probably run better in some systems than previous versions of Musix. We really apreciatte bug and test reports! =What's new in Musix 0.39= * Rosegarden4 1.2.3 (Musix is the first distro to provide this version. Thanks to Silvan and Rosegarden's Great Team!) * Xorg 6.9 (Thank you Adrian P. for the adaption of it) * 4 Kernels: 2.6.15.2 (live-cd boot kernel) 2.6.15.4 (live-cd boot kernel with realtime patch) 2.6.15.3-rt-musix (not live-cd bootable. must be installed to hdd. realtime-patched) 2.6.13-1-multimedia (not live-cd bootable. must be installed to hdd. realtime-patched) * Some changes in the visual aspect: * KDE 3.5.1 * All sources available at www.gnu.org * eq-xmms-musix modified by Pardo (recommended) * hundreds of updates software packages * lots of bug fixes, and more. = Known issues = * Installation: After installation only kernels 2.6.15.3 and 2.6.13 are bootable. Once there the system should create the necesary stuff so it is able to boot other kernels. If this does not happen, PLEASE report it. * KDM (desktop manager) takes a lot to start. * Possible SATA hdd incompatibility * Kernel 2.6.15.4 (with realtime) makes reading in low-memory (128mb ram) systems to be really slow, becase it was not possible to compile it with unionfs support, contrary to 2.6.15.2 which has no issues with this. = Thanks and acknowledgements = * To those who have been there always, and those who recently joined, but I want to give a special one to Tapani Raikkonen who compiled the live-cd kernels and taught me lots of things about it. -- Marcos Guglielmetti Director del desarrollo de Musix GNU+Linux (www.musix.org.ar) (www.pc-musica.com.ar/musix) (ftp://musix.ourproject.org/pub/musix/) __________________________________________________ Correo Yahoo!
