feedback and me

anyone have tips for avoiding ugly digital clipping whilst messing with
digital feedback? i'm getting some really nice results with a simple
oscillator/delay/filter setup, but when the thing takes off and starts
screaming listening to the clipping gets old really quickly. i'm thinking
of some sort of follower/limiter arrangement, so that i can start dividing
my output like mad when it's about to clip, but i'm afraid that will tend
to damp everything tooooo quickly . . . i really like it when it squeals,
just not when it clips . . .

any ideas/pointers to info?

thanks!

douglas
