That would explain why I kept seeing suggestions for downloading IE4 - I 
thought it was just Microsoft trying to get people to use it.

Useful to know, but doesn't affect my current project.

Unfortunately, NT is my 'system of choice' for work (and hence software 
development), even though an application like the current one may well be run 
on Win95.

Anyway, I think I have enough info to work with the waveXXX functions, so I 
will do that for now.  (Maybe NT5 will have come along by the time I need to 
use DirectX.)
