I agree with everyone that EE is a better route than CS for doing DSP, but
another option which I took is a Computer Engineering degree.  A lot of
schools now offer Computer Engineering degrees, which give a good
combination between EE and CS.  One problem is CE degrees often don't go
very far into DSP, but in my experience I was able to tailor my electives
to cover it without too much trouble.
