I've just tried uping to three buffers. It didn't do anything for the lower
limit (in terms of ms) but introduced, as you said, an upper limit.
I can only presume that Rebirth is giving inaccurate info about the MME
latency. Other than that, maybe my inability to use WAVE_FORMAT_DIRECT has
something to do with it.
