No idea of the technical details, but they use "modified" sound-card
drivers (i.e. not the standard MME or DirectSound interface). Seer, the
developers of Reality, have some kind of close partnership with Creative
Labs - I believe they had a hand in the software synth that shipped with
the Awe64.

(note this applies to Reality 1.0 - I have no idea about 1.5)
