scrub-a-dub-dub

I'd like to implement scrubbing in an audio player I'm working on. Curtis
Roads points to "Crochiere and Rabiner 1983; Rabiner 1984; and Lagadec 1984"
on page 127 of his _The Computer Music Journal_. I think he meant 1983 for
the latter two; those pieces are from an AES publication titled _Digital
Audio_ that seems like it would be cool to have. Regardless, all three
sources are out of print as far as I can tell. Can anyone recommend a more
readily available source for info on continuously varying the sample rate as
in required scrubbing? I'm thinking of getting _The Art of Digital Audio_ by
John Watkins. Does that book discuss this?
