on that note, I should mention http://www.nanoloop.com, which is a 
sequencer/sound manipulator cartidge for gameboy (which uses the 
internal sound chips). It appears to be out of stock at the moment, 
but there is a rom available for download, so u can play about with 
it in an emulator (if u find one that supports audio properly).

having had a look at the site, looks like there is a version under 
development for japanese mobile phones.
