This is merely a repeat because I posted about this a couple of weeks ago.
Check SoundBlaster Live which has E-mu 10k1 DSP processor. The open source
Linux driver has an assembler and a program to upload code to the DSP.
(And as suggested in another post, Linux itself is fairly good.)
It could be simpler only if there would be a company selling out-of-the-box
programmable DSP engine. There seems to be none because such box design
is "out" at the moment. At meanwhile, you have to build one yourself if
you need a portable DSP box.
