In its simplest form, yes. The design of the band pass filter bank is by no
means trivial, though.

As many as you can possibly cram into the available hardware and still have
good-sounding glitch-free performance, with straight phase response across
the range.

> 3) What is the internal digital format when a A-D conversion takes place?

Typically, linear integer PCM, although I'm sure there's other converters
out there (mu-law or whatnot).
