It is actually not.  NTFS does not impose this limit, as it pertains only
to FAT16/32.

For direct recording to disk, somebody used Winamp with "Lin. In" and
"disk writer" plugins.  You can search for plugins at www.winamp.com;
be careful that the plugins are incompatible with the current v3, so
that you will need the v2.8 or something.

You can also use it to compress to MP3 on the fly.
