Reread your original message, and noticed you already are using peaking eq's. Apologies for belaboring that point in my
earlier message today. From your description, sounds like your EQ is well-designed.
I think the other points are valid though. Users shouldn't be "shielded" from distortion caused by their mis-setting of
controls. Experienced users will expect to hear distortion if they overdrive a component, and will know how to avoid it.
If you try to automatically readjust the EQ to fix their mistakes, it will be disorienting to the user. The user might
be very puzzled that the overall gain of the EQ "automatically" drops when he boosts a band.
But if the EQ is in a consumer plaything like an MP3 jukebox, perhaps automatic level compensation would be appreciated
by that audience?
