By the way, I wrote a downsampling program at one point, and when I did
listening tests, it was surprising to me just how expensive a filter I
needed to use to maintain the clarity of the source...  At least the way I
did it, it takes significant processing to do audiophile quality
downsampling.  I wouldn't be all that surprised if many conversion programs
chose faster algorithms over slow, but very high quality ones.
