This is not my experience. I find the iPod to be surprisingly good (with the
later generations generally being better than the earlier ones -- but the
last one I have listened to is the original iPod Photo).

Perhaps your specific unit simply has a problem. What you are describing
does not sound like anything I have heard on the units we have here.
