[music-dsp] Waveform Interpolation

Dear DSP list members,

I am trying to quantify the advantage of more complex forms of interpolation 
over linear interpolation (in particular when reading samples to populate the 
audio buffer of a wavetable synthesizer, but not limited to that). This in 
order to determine if it's worth the extra CPU effort or not. Any of you has 
any sort of experience in this area and what algorithm would you recommend 
then?
Is there any audible benefit in reducing aliasing when using more complex 
forms of interpolation?
