[Portaudio] portaudio on fedora

Dear forum members

I have a simple application using Qt for the gui and portaudio for the
soundcard. I started my development
using slackware, and it worked perfectly. Then I ported the application to
windows (vista) using MINGW
and - I must admit to my surprise - it worked within two days.
Based upon reactions of other linux users who were interested in my
application,
I moved to a more "main stream" distribution. First Fedora 11. Problems with
the combination of portaudio and pulse.
Applying a set of patches lead to a - some times - working version. Moving
to fedora 12 was no real
success, my applications continues to fail in the portaudio part. Portaudio
with and without patches,
tre stock package, no difference. Sometimes it gives a message, complaining
that some portaudio lines
cannot handle things, most of the times, it just says nothing, does not
provide errors on initialization
but no stream data.

In the mean time I had to change computer and are now running W7, where the
applications works perfectly,
and Fedora 12. I changed fedora for Ubuntu: same results, no functioning
application.

I read about problems/potential problems when running portaudio on top of
pulse, applied the patches, checked
a thousand times.
I am now struggling for three monts with this problem, any help is really
appreciated.

FYI
my application reads samples, shows some spectrum info, does some basic
frequency shifts and it does
some selectable decoding, next to controlling a simple radio device, i.e. it
is a software defined radio.

all the best and many thanks on beforehand.
