Without wanting to put a dampener on a valuable contribution, can I urge some 
caution - I have just quickly looked over the patch, and there are some 
changes in Alsa to xrun handling etc that are unrelated to hotplug.  Isn't it 
better to pick the patch apart, review carefully for each api in the light of 
finalising how hotplug should work?  Also, it would be good to know the 
issues that lead to those unrelated changes, etc.
