OK, now you have to try the newest RTcmix toy -- a new instrument called SCRUB, 
in insts/std (do a CVS update -d).  It is not in the insts/std/Makefile quite 
yet, but you can build and install it from its directory.

SCRUB is like TRANSBEND, but uses variable-quality sync interpolation code that 
I got from an old friend.  It will play soundfiles forwards and backwards, and 
will even allow you to start a file forwards, and slow down till it stops and 
then runs backwards!  (See the last sample score).
