Music Department Represented at Academic Conferences in Fall 2003

The Department of Music was well represented at a number of academic society conferences in Fall 2003:

• Seven current music graduate students presented papers at the National Meeting of the Society for Ethnomusicology in October: Farzaneh Hemmasi, David Novak, Brian Karl, Niko Higgins, Adriana Helbig, Elizabeth Keenan, and Timothy Mangin. Assistant Professor Christopher Washburne also presented a paper at the same conference, as did two Columbia music department alumni: Kai Fikentscher (PhD '96) and Leslie Gay (PhD '91).

• In November, current graduate student Maryam Moshaver presented a paper at the Annual Meeting for the Society of Music Theory; graduate student Chadwick Jenkins and Assistant Professor Christopher Washburne presented papers at the American Musicological Society Annual Meeting. Also in November, current graduate student Timothy Mangin, Associate Professor Timothy Taylor, and Associate Professor Aaron Fox presented papers at the National Meeting of the American Anthropological Association.
