The development of various styles of popular music in 20th-century Brazil, with special attention to traditional African and Portuguese forms from which they derive.  

The prerequisite for this course is C1123 or F1123 Masterpieces of Western Music or BC 1001x or 1002y Introduction to Music, or equivalent.
