Re-Bach |

| Re-Bach – New York Repertory Orchestra, May 19th, 2001 at the Good Shepard-Faith Church. This piece was originally commissioned by Butch Baldassari and the Nashville Mandolin Ensemble. I wrote this work for a recording of contemporary mandolin orchestra music that never came about and the piece sat unperformed for 3 or 4 years. In 2001 I was hired by the New York Repertory Orchestra as a mandolin soloist to perform Vivaldi’s “Concerto in C” for mandolin and orchestra. The NYRO conductor, David Leibowitz, thought that we should find another work for mandolin and orchestra to program since the Vivaldi piece was rather short – about ten minutes. I asked if he would be interested in performing Re-Bach if I re-orchestrated it for mandolin and orchestra and after looking over the score he agreed. We were both happy with the new arrangement and I think we would both agree that the composition worked better with the more varied tonal colors available in the traditional orchestra. The work has yet to be performed in the mandolin orchestra version, and is perhaps a little too daring for the average American mandolin orchestra. The mandolin orchestra version is published by N.L. Publications. The version for orchestra and mandolin solo has not been published but is available. Feel free to email me if you are interested in programming this work.
