In order to aid the creation of projects that rely on statistical data taken from real dancers, such as in

Pas de Dieu, I am working on creating a library in Java that will make the gathering of data as easy as possible.

I have created the DanceTracker Java library that is now currently in Alpha release, as I am currently in the process of adding several more major features.

The current features of the DanceTracker package include:

  • Locating a dancer in an image
  • Tracking a dancer over time
  • Position and velocity recording
  • General statistical analysis of the dancer’s movements

Review the Javadocs for DanceTracker Alpha

Future features to be added to the DanceTracker package currently in development include:

  • Tracking for multiple dancers with independent statistical analysis
  • Comparative statistical analysis for multiple dancers
  • Directional analysis
  • Probabilistic model generation
  • Data smoothing

Utilities

These utilities may be useful in the use of DanceTracker

  • Imgcon v3.3 – Console utility for the batch conversion of image files
  • IrfanView v3.7 – A great free program for viewing and converting image files
  • RAD Video Tools – Utility that includes the extraction of frames from video files
