Magdalena Stern-Baczewska has made her Philadelphia Orchestra debut, performing Tan Dun's Triple Concerto at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center for Performing Arts, with the composer conducting.
Magdalena Stern-Baczewska was Artist in Residence at University of Nevada Las Vegas. She presented a lecture "Interpreting Bach’s Dance Music on the Keyboard," and performed a recital on the piano and harpsichord.
"Illuminations: Essays in Honor of Brian Cherney" is a guest-edited volume by Robin Elliott, dedicated to the music of the Canadian composer Brian Cherney. It features writing by several Columbia affiliates including Core Lecturers Matthew Ricketts and Taylor Brook, CMC Instructor David Adamcyk, and Assistant Professor Zosha Di Castri.
Professor Kevin Fellezs's new book Listen But Don’t Ask Question: Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Across the TransPacific will be published in December 2019 by Duke University Press.

Magdalena Stern-Baczewska has made her Tanglewood Music Festival debut in August, performing Tan Dun's "Martial Arts Cycle" with violinist Ryu Goto and cellist Wei Yu at the Seiji Ozawa Hall. The performance received a standing ovation.

Marc Hannaford will join Columbia's department of music as Lecturer in Discipline (Music Theory) in the Fall of 2019. He will teach classes in the undergraduate music theory sequence as well as electives that reflect his interests in performance, improvisation, identity, and experimental music.
The award, given annually to an outstanding professor from Columbia College and from Columbia Engineering, is granted based on the ability to stimulate, challenge and inspire students; a demonstrated interest in students and the ability to relate positively to students outside the classroom; and a recognized high standing in one’s academic discipline.
