Jason Oakes

Jason L. Oakes is a part-time lecturer at the New School. He received his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from Columbia University in 2005. He has since been an Editor for Repertoire International de Litterature Musicale (RILM) International Center at CUNY, where he oversaw and edited all entries related to popular music, and has taught classes at Columbia, Manhattan College, John Jay School of Criminal Justice, and at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (Fall 2008). His work on musical reenactments, tributes, impersonators, and karaoke has been published in several academic anthologies and in the journal Current Musicology.
