PhD Student in Historical Musicology
Phoenix Collins is a graduate student in historical musicology at Columbia University. Hailing from New York City, she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Music, English and Economics-Mathematics at Columbia University before undertaking a Masters of Music at Kings College London. Her research takes a feminist slant on popular music of the late twentieth century, spanning a range of media including cinema and music video. Mobilizing voice studies, political critique, and social theory, Phoenix interrogates the various ways in which social agents are silenced or envoiced within popular song. In her spare time, Phoenix enjoys playing ultimate frisbee.
