The Department of Music is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2020 prizes for distinction in Music Composition, awarded annually to undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate distinction in the area of Music Composition, as determined by a committee of faculty members in the Composition area.
The Charles S. Miller Prize (graduate)
Awarded annually to graduate students in the field of Music Composition who, in the opinion of the Faculty, have achieved distinction of the highest standard.
Awarded to Stylianos Dimou (DMA ’20)
Stylianos Dimou is a Greek composer of acoustic, mixed and electroacoustic music, as well as a conductor and performer. Recipient of numerous international grants and awards, his music has been premiered and commissioned by International Festivals in Europe and the USA, and his artistic and academic endeavors have been supported by Fulbright, Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, IRCAM, and others. His works explore aspects of organic, pitch intricacies in relationship with the evolution and the eventual exhaustion of repetitive mechanic rhythmicity, vibrant complexity, and live interactivity, utilizing technologies that blend instrumental and electroacoustic entities.
