Callum Blackmore Awarded Best Student Paper Prize at SECM

Callum Blackmore has been awarded the prize for best student paper at the Ninth Biennial Conference of the Society for Eighteenth-Century Music, held virtually at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in Stockholm. His paper, “Slavery, Celebrity, and the Creolization of French Opera in Colonial Saint-Domingue,” suggested that white singers working in eighteenth-century Cap-Français forwarded celebrity personae designed to justify the colonial plantation economy and otherwise obfuscate its atrocities.

Congratulations Callum!
