Columbia Alumni Included in Harvard Fromm Music Foundation Commissions of 2019

The Fromm Music Foundation at Harvard University has announced the names of fifteen composers selected to receive 2019 Fromm commissions.

Eight of the fifteen winners are alumni of Columbia's DMA program in Composition:  Ashkan Behzadi (2019), Natacha Diels (2016), Alec Hall (2015), Mika Pelo (2009), Katharina Rosenberger (2009), Christopher Trapani (2018), Wang Lu (2011), and Eric Wubbels (2010).

The other Fromm recipients are Derek Bermel (Brooklyn, NY), Sungji Hong (Denton, TX), Louis Karchin (Short Hills, NJ), Roscoe Mitchell (Fitchburg, WI), Mathew Rosenblum (Pittsburgh, PA), Peter Shin (Kansas City, MO), and Wang Xi (Dallas, TX).

These commissions represent one of the principal ways that the Fromm Music Foundation seeks to strengthen composition and to bring contemporary concert music closer to the public. In addition to the commissioning fee, a subsidy is available for the ensemble performing the premiere of the commissioned work.

Applications for commissions are reviewed on an annual basis. The deadline for 2020 proposals is June 1.
