Columbia Jazz Ensemble Wins top Prize at Next Generation Jazz Festival

Jazz ensemble from Columbia University's Louis Armstrong Jazz Performance Program, directed by Bruce Barth, wins first prize in the College Combo division at the Next Generation Jazz Festival competition in Monterey, CA on Saturday, April 6th, 2019. The ensemble features Liam Broderick CC'21 on guitar, Joseph Block CC'21 on piano, Aaron Kranzler CC'21 on alto saxophone, James Haddad CC'22 on trumpet, Daniel Mesko CC'19 on drum, and Jack Aylor CC'19 on bass. In addition to winning first place as a group, four of the musicians also took home top soloist awards in the competition ( Mesko, Broderick, Kranzler, and Block). The group will return to Monterey to perform on the main stage for the world famous Monterey Jazz Festival in September, 2019.
