Dr. Velia Ivanova (GSAS '21, Historical Musicology) has been named a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto beginning January 1, 2022. At Toronto, Dr. Ivanova will develop Encountering Incarceration Musically, a book project that focuses on the ways public perceptions of the carceral system have been shaped by music recorded behind bars in the United States. This project continues work she completed at the John W. Kluge Center in Washington D.C., where she held the Jon B. Lovelace Fellowship in 2020-2021 to work with the Alan Lomax Collection at the Library of Congress's American Folklife Center.
