Giuseppe Gerbino wins NEH and NHC fellowships for his book project “Music and Mind in the Renaissance”

Professor Giuseppe Gerbino has been awarded two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Humanities Center for his book project “Music and Mind in the Renaissance.” The book explores pre-Cartesian theories of mind as they relate to music and sound perception and traces the history of changing conceptions of human musicality in the sixteenth century, from the belief in a pre-ordained, structural affinity between music and soul to an idea of musicality based on the human ability to engage in emotional empathy. He will be in residence at the National Humanities Center in 2019-20.

Congratulations!
