Hicham Chami, PhD student in Ethnomusicology, is the recipient of the 2022 Dissertation Fieldwork Grant from the American Institute for Maghrib Studies. His research focuses on the music culture of the Jebala region, located in the western portion of the Rif mountains in Northern Morocco, and this grant will allow him to spend the next few months traveling the region. He will also conduct archival work in France and Spain. His dissertation is co-advsed by Alessandra Ciucci and Aaron Fox.
