Ethnomusicology PhD student Manuel Garcia Orozco's "Anónimas & Resilientes" (Anonymous and Resilient) is nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Recording Package. The album presents seven largely unknown voices that preserve "bullerengue", a musical tradition led by Afro-descended elderly women in the rural Colombian Caribbean.
Despite the historical marginalization of the region, these artists are proud to record their first album and overcome oblivion. The eldest, Ms. Fernanda Peña, is 105 years old.
