Maria Sonevytsky Appointed to UC Berkeley

Maria Sonevytsky has been appointed Assistant Professor of Music at the University of California at Berkeley, beginning in July 2018. Prof. Sonevytsky earned her PhD in Ethnomusicology at Columbia in 2012, and is also an undergraduate alumna of Barnard College. She has taught as Assistant Professor of Music at Bard College since 2014, after holding several postdoctoral fellowships. Her Columbia dissertation, advised by Aaron Fox, was based on research she has conducted since 2008 in Ukraine and Crimea. This research will be published by Wesleyan University Press as a book entitled Wild Music: Sovereign Imaginaries and Popular Music in Revolutionary Ukraine

Prof. Sonevytsky will remain in her current position at Bard College until taking up the position at UC Berkeley.
