Mark Seto (GSAS PhD '12) has been appointed Lecturer in Music and Director of the Brown Symphony Orchestra, beginning in Fall 2018.  Mark's dissertation at Columbia was about symphonic culture in France in the last decades of the nineteenth century.  His articles and reviews have been published in 19th-Century Music, Nineteenth-Century Choral Music, Nineteenth-Century Music Review, Current Musicology, and Nineteenth-Century French Studies.  Mark has been teaching and conducting at Connecticut College since 2011, where he is currently Associate Professor.  Since 2011, Mark has also been Artistic Director and Conductor of the Chelsea Symphony in New York City.  Under his leadership the ensemble has programmed more than three dozen world premieres and has had debut performances at David Geffen Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, Merkin Concert Hall, and Symphony Space.  At Brown Mark will teach one academic course and lead the distinguished university orchestra.  He will also assist in the development of Brown’s new Performing Arts Center.
