Dane Schultz is a first year PhD student in Ethnomusicology at Columbia University, focusing on ethnographic research of the popular Cuban music genre of timba. He holds an AA from Mira Costa College in Recording Arts/Record Production and Digital Audio Production, a BA from UCLA in Spanish & Portuguese and an MA from Columbia University in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Dane has experience working professionally as an audio engineer and has spent the last several years personally participating with musical/cultural events, festivals, and audiovisual production work of Cuba’s elite timba musicians and their popular orchestras.
