I am a second-year PhD student in the Music Department at Columbia, where I'm thinking about the intersection of aesthetics, temporality, and processes of queer and black world-making in electronic music. I am especially interested in rave culture in industrial urban contexts (e.g. Detroit, Sheffield, Berlin), the histories of house and techno, and the entanglement of dance music and global financial crisis since the 1990s.
Previously, I was a Fulbright Scholar in Berlin working more broadly on contemporary music and neoliberalism, labor issues, and the internet. My essay on musician-influencers on Instagram is forthcoming in Music as Labour, an edited volume published by Routledge. In Berlin, I was also an editor and journalist for the classical music magazine VAN. I have given conference papers and invited talks across the United States and Europe on topics as broad as Austrian public radio, Nadia Boulanger and postwar French musical culture, and the musical aesthetics of Silicon Valley. In 2021, I will present a paper on trans women in electronic music at the annual meeting of the American Musicological Society.
