As a PhD student in music theory, Martin's research focuses on speculative notions in tonal thought, particularly how the ideal of perfect intonation might subconsciously influence compositional processes. He combines a philosophical-historical approach with new experimental methods in computer technology.
Clinging to his hometown, Martin studied at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre, graduating with a BA in jazz piano, a BA in composition/theory, and a MA in music theory. He furthermore taught music theory and ear training there and at the University of Music Lübeck.
