Joshua Walden earned his PhD with Distinction at Columbia University in 2008. He held a Junior Research Fellowship at Merton College, University of Oxford, and an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, and served on the musicology faculty at the Peabody Institute. He is the author of two books published by Oxford University Press, Musical Portraits: The Composition of Identity in Contemporary and Experimental Music (2018) and Sounding Authentic: The Rural Miniature and Musical Modernism (AMS Studies in Music Series, 2014). He is also the editor of two volumes for Cambridge University Press, The Cambridge Companion to Jewish Music (2016) and Representation in Western Music (2013). His publications have won awards from ASCAP, the Association for Recorded Sound Collections, and the American Musicological Society’s Jewish Studies and Music Study Group. As a violinist, he has performed in venues in New York City, Oxford, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
