Dialogue in the First Movements of Mozart's Viennese Piano Concertos

Author:
Keefe, Simon Patrick

Considers dialogue's prominent role in defining piano-orchestra relations in the first movements of Mozart's piano concertos K. 413-595. Chap.1 shows that contemporary theoretical writings on dialogue construct a dramatic relationship between the soloist and the orchestra. Chap.2 explores in detail analogies between the concerto and drama. Chaps 3-4 determine how and why dialogue and piano-orchestra relations develop over the course of Mozart's movements and how such development can be considered dramatic.
