The Department warmly congratulates Ian Sewell, who successfully defended his PhD dissertation in Music (Music Theory), “When All You Have Is A Hammer: Problems in Schenkerian Analysis,” on September 28, 2023. Ian's dissertation was advised by Professor Joseph Dubiel, and his committee included Professors Mariusz Kozak, Benjamin Steege, L. Poundie Burstein (Hunter College), and Marion Guck (University of Michigan).
