Sonja Wermager Publishes Article in "19th-Century Music"

September 06, 2022

Sonja Wermager's article "'Worthy of a Monument in Artistic History:' Religion and Nation in the Plans for Robert Schumann's Unrealized Martin Luther Oratorio" has been published in the most recent issue of 19th-Century Music. Through analysis of correspondence and planning documents, the article contends that Schumann and librettist Richard Pohl found in Luther an ideal symbol through which to articulate their vision of German social and political identity at a time of burgeoning nationalism throughout the German states. The article can be found here.

Congratulations, Sonja!
