Originally from South Korea, Ian Y. Chung began his musical journey in jazz before pursuing composition and music theory. His research explores cultural power dynamics in twentieth- and twenty-first-century East Asian music, combining social, political, and cultural approaches with graphical analysis that captures the essence of musical works.
Alongside his scholarly work, he maintains an active career as a composer whose music bridges classical, jazz, and Korean musical traditions, integrating research and creative practice through a transcultural perspective.
