Description
Oral presentation to the area faculty committee on a musical, sonic, or cultural object or text chosen by the student and approved in advance by the area committee.

Written comprehensive (1) month take-home/(3) essay exam, on (3) questions and (3) bibliographies, developed by the student in consultation with a faculty advisor and approved by the area committee, related to primary and secondary area and theoretical foci of student's dissertation.
